My gosh.. I need some information...

Just went for an interview+written test at the above faculty this afternoon...

I think I pretty much screwed up on the written test because my handwriting was horrendous and I was babbling. Not that badly.. I was still on track.. But the handwriting, if you understand..

The prof who interviewed me was Dr Alfred Choi and according to the seniors I spoke to, he prefers girls to guys.. If you get my drift. He patted me on the hand like 3 times and told me not to worry about my bad results because there's still hope.. I think he liked me. But then again, I probably would not know.

I was thinking:
WHAT 4#!@@~#! hope? People with 4As went for the interview also. And I think they wrote better than I did. The only thing I had to bank on was my photography (a darn weak excuse) and the fact that I had been the school magazine editor in IJ. The girl who was interviewed before me had written 27 articles on national chinese newspapers...

Now I wish I haven't went on that school tour. I fell in love with the recording studio and the labs and everything... They have a COLOUR photography lab which I am dying to try out.

So, what do you think are my chances? My A'level results were crap until cannot crap, though I didn't fail a single thing...

check pm
dun give up hope k?
i'll be hope-ing for u too...

...cos my hall wants you :)

Aiya easy to get in.

:D

No disrespect for other fac, U r not talking about Law fac or medical fac or even some Ivy League schools.

I know this...my job is in the area of HR. ;)

Why is every PM I receive saying that SCI is easy to get in?

Then what about the fact that they want a lot of As? That don't count?
And what about the fact that there's only 50% chance of me getting in?

If they don't reply me soon I'm going to collapse from all that stress... :(

you don't need 4As to get into that faculty.

my friend didn't get very good results either.

like somebody has said

you're not really fighting for law or medicine where it really counts.. and apparently no appeals are allowed some more.

My gf who graduated 2 yrs ago from NTU Comm Studies mentioned that the worst 'A' level results that SCI accepted during her corhort was a 'A A C B3'. Apparently, u need at least 2 As to be considered and GP cannot be lower than B3.

If u get in , you will get in. Its already over, no point harping on it. So why not just hope and pray for it. If u get accepted then it will be a pleasant surprise if not, just try again if u are really really interested.

Dear Pol,

Like what I mentioned to u before, results are not the utmost impt criteria. If not, why would they bother to make the applicants go thru an interview & written test right? Fr my experience as a masscomm student, the interview is VERY impt. Not kidding, cos it's where u leave the lecturer and/or Dean a deep & lasting impression. Don't think it's a problem for u right? You are so bubbly & cheerful ;)

Hi Poledra,

I'm a final year student from SCI =).

I would say the selection for this fac is quite stringent. For my batch, we only have 140 students. Apparently, the numbers have been rising each year aka more ppl trying to get in aka more stringent interviews!!!!!

I went for the interview 4 years ago too. But they didnt have written tests then, just an oral interview with 2 members of the staff. I had mine with the DEAN and another lecturer. Think what they want to assess is WHY did you choose to enter this school??? Is it becos of photography? Or u love to write? You must be damn clear abt this. For me, my reason was because I was a film buff and i wanted to take e video production courses. Of cos, it wud be great if u managed to impress the interviewers.

N yes, the studios there are pretty impressive for a visitor i must say. But i tell u its HARD work to be doing video production. Of cos, there are other divisions that u can specialise in during e third year like Journalism. E rest of NTU has this perception that SCI is a damn slack place....watch TV all day long..blah blah..but i can assure u its not. E only thing thats true is dat we have the prettiest gals on campus - n wif brains to boot.

I'm VERY sure its NOT a colour lab we have but a BnW one!! Maybe some inexperienced freshie or sophomore brought you around on the tour and told you the wrong information. Hiyah...kids these days. tsk. Shld check wif a lao jiao like me!!!

SCI offers a photojournalism class for 3rd year students. u can also shoot for the campus paper, The Nanyang Chronicle. I had a lotta exposure there and took up the photo editor post during my third year.

Gd luck for your application!! Anyway, we're having a screening of all our Final Year Project short films later (monday) in the LT at 230pm. You might wanna pop down and take a look.

PM me if you wanna noe more. =)

are the legends true? used to go there pretty often to pick my gf up... the girls look rather average to me, maybe the pretty ones are hiding somehwhere. :sweatsm:

I agree that the curriculum seems rather heavy tho, have had to help my gal with quite a number of her papers and film critiques (i'm very good at smoking essays :D ). Film production is soo much work too.... the details that need attending to are daunting...going to their film shoots makes u feel like an utterly useless idiot, most times ended up being the water-boy or running misc errands. but it really looked fun... :)

fotojourn for sci is actually offered in the 3rd year, not second. and frankly, its more like basic intro to photography than proper fotojourn. still, its a good start and better than nothing.

anyway, sci having the prettiest girls is nothing more than an urban legend. perhaps in yr 4 coz those gurls all seem to look different after PI.......see what academic life does to you?

in da first place, why do u wanna come to sci? its not as fun and easy as pple make it out to be and quite frankly, its a place for academics who can write brillaint thesis rather than truly talented and creative folks. ha, but then again, nothing is perfect.....

alfred choi? hmmm.....then the chance of you getting a place wd be inversely proportionate to the length of your skirt..... :D

oh yah.. photojourn is a 3rd year course!

Don't worry lah .... my handwritting even I cannot dicipher sometime and I still got in ;) .... hehehehe ..... Written 27 articles on national newspapers, so what? Anyway, my friend applied for it last year, her result is also so so .... then got offer from SMU or Business, Mass Media from NTU SCI .. hehehe...... so result isn't everything ..... the main part is how did you do in the interview ;).

... It was Dr Choi who told me that it was a colour lab. :D Er. Let sleeping dogs lie, ok?
And it was a Vincent Teo bringing me around for the tour. Think he was a lecturer... :D

I said I was deeply interested in learning how to shoot portraits a la those in those glossy magazines. Then I also expressed interest in journalism. Drilled Dr Choi with questions about the master's programme, the 'colour' lab and if I could specialise in 2 divisions at the same time.

I don't know if I did impress him, but he seemed to like me...

My skirt was at knee length. How good are my chances, judging from the theory about the skirt length? :bsmilie:

My results.. I have nothing above D. That's why I'm worried. GP: B3.
