NRIC

Incidentally, can you name me anything you could do good or bad knowing those IC numbers? :)

Just be careful of being to eager to show off your IC to whoever asks you for it. There is a thing i.e. theft of identity.

They'll take an IPhone photo of your IC and you'll soon find your photos appearing in a Jap porn site in a red loincloth. :bsmilie:

Did you really think this thru to see how they do this? When you register to a porn site, you use your credit card or your IC? I get the humor but don't understand your logic of joke construct leh.

Even if they superimpose my IC to some photo to post... so what? Any further proof that it is real. Again.. There are procedures to verified that for abuse or authenticity. Again. Paranoia.

Why don't voluntarily show your IC to a policeman with a big grin and see whether he throws you into the jail or not? :bsmilie:

Hopefully I did not get this wrong due to old age, only SGTs rank and above can ask to see your IC by police procedures. Which I find it strange this is not changed till today. This is something folks who left the NS or Policeman themselves know. And they teach their friends this like a way to stop lower rank officers on the ground from seeing their IC. especially to scare NS young new recruit that just pass out and start patrolling.

The funny catch is this, Any office lower then SGT can still get to see your IC simply by asking you, 'Sir/Mdm The name, address or IC number you just verbally told me is correct or made up? How can you proof to me that is your true particulars?' what would you do in order to prevent yourself a visit to the Police Station since they need to verify your identity (police enpower to do so) So in the end, LPPL... you have no choice but to take out your IC to proof it on the spot. hahah... so die die there is a way around it the police insist on knowing your true identity....so stop trying to play lawyer. heheh.

Yes the IC is a very powerful and important identity document for all citizens to proof who they are but we are paranoid for all the wrong reasons. It's proof of identity and not proof of authentication to do or buy something. I think your credit card and signature is even more dangerous then just your IC. Maybe watch too many spy movies and TV shows. That simple card has many pretty advance security aspect designed into it to guard against forgery or tampering.

Even today, the credit card is more dangerous as some retaurant and retail stores has that wave and go or insert card and print receipt with no need to sign on the chit.

Thus you hear more about exposing credit card crime ring or IC card ? heheh

They don't throw you in jail for not having your IC or showing it. You have a day's period to bring it to the police station an IC or any other form of official document to proof your identity by law. And only in some cases where they think you might be involve in some criminal act, they can also take you in and hold you for 24 or 48 hours to check out your story. Sorry we not USA.. no such things as warrant and all that stuff heh.

To be fair, are there black sheep cops? Yes some rare cases... it was a lot more back in my time especially NS cops who come out and abuse their power. But citizens got smarter, some even report you and heavier punishment are dished out to them. They then to bully you or scare you and thus it gets a little reputation like that the got stuck in the minds of some citizens. A real dirty cop will never do this, they are more corrupted but here in Singapore, it is almost rare. Island is small and now everyone with smartphone, you think cop acting bad or doing bad is so public with citizens now? hahahah...

Remember the old days where parents will scare their children to get them to behave and would threaten to have the police arrest them. By the 90s, no one is scare of Police... old or young. Now they fast to complain if you dare to even hint of being a little rude to them, the citizen or PR.

Tomorrow when I get to work I'll take a snap for you of my social security id card, driver's license, and passport. For some strange reason I keep these important credentials in my tool box. haha I imagine a would be terrorist would love to have good copies of such documents..or perhaps an illegal alien. Paranoia? I have no problem showing my papers for some reason. :bsmilie:

It is so easy to crack numbers if you wanted to commit crime. Thank God not everyone and their brother is so nefarious or has access to software/hardware that would allow it.

The lock and key is to keep the honest man honest right? :)

Any cop asks to see my papers I automatically defer to their authority.

One's ID is not sacrosanct anymore. My opinion. Welcome to the digital age.

BTW I can also include copy of my yDNA report...lol

I am proud of who I am...I look good damnit...hahaha

Criminal act that uses information from a IC is almost negligible. And I say that because in almost any business transaction, by itself it is not able to grant you anything short of other additional supporting document, signature, biometric ..etc in this modern day. Since 911 so much more security are now in place for identity document, banking...etc that criminal or terrorist of the highest caliber have to resort to way more sophisticated tech to steal and rob. And they are not doing that to your run-of-the-mill average Mr Tan on the street of Singapore. heheh So for criminals wanting to steal past advance security, they have to invest heavily in new tech in order to steal or smuggle. Like that, why would they attack small value targets for small change? They go big.heh Look at the hacking of Ashley Madison Dating heeeee... (Sion, you got account with them? )

I was tasked in my former job to look into special electronic cash card with creditable monetary value storage like a members club. And I called in some security companies that sells security tech from special printing printing ink to holograms, chipset...etc I even saw a unique DNA ink pen service. If you sat down and view like I did their examples and how advance some of the stuff were, you'll be blown away. And in some cases, stuff i saw, you don't even see them in movies. heh

Cool. Welcome to the RLC (Red Loincloth Club)! :bsmilie:

I once went into a roadside bathroom and removed my red underwear and wrapped it around a flashlight so we would have a taillight so we could get home without someone crashing into the back of us or getting stopped by the law. We made it home safe. Talk about Red Loincloth Club. True story. :bsmilie::bsmilie::bsmilie:

Ya I know of US cops articles and all those strange strict laws ( like your busted taillight) in place to earn money. I was shock to read, that is how Police operate there in some of those states ...literally telling their cops to go fine as many folks to get their earning up. there are actually "fine quotas" and they target specific racial and income groups. That includes laws where if they think the money you carry is for drug buying, they can just take it and even if proven you are innocent most times they get to keep it still. It's like night and day compare to Singapore cops. And we still have citizen complaining our cops are rude and useless heheheh

Money has magnetic strip in it...they can scan cars and know who is carrying big cash. ;)

Now Highway Patrol and many local LEO's have license tag scanner in cars...scan your tag...know everything about you. Instantly. Tech is there for doing this with RFID chip and cell phone chips too. They encroach on freedom slowly though...how much freedom can one handle responsibly?

Yes...you can see my ID card...hahaha

Don't be skeered! :D

Even your parking warden vehicles has this licence plate tag scanner mounted on top, to scan plate numbers for parking offences. I have seen this in Parking Wars TV.

That's all fine and good. More importantly make sure you totally check all your bags and pocket that you did not bring along any of your medical marijuana or what have you that is legal where you are back home. That does not fly well here with the law and last thing you want is a long over stay or be swinging from a beam. Just because it i legal where you are, it is deadly in this here parts 'pardner' heheh

I do not do the marijuana thing sir... :)

I think that girl and her two friends who fled the scene leaving friend to freak out about car only to come back five minutes later (after walking up sidewalk to stash something) in the car in the trees picture I posted yesterday...now those folks...I think they were smoking weed or something... :bsmilie::bsmilie::bsmilie:
