Just FYI for any 1D owners/users out there. Was speaking to a mate over here and apparently there is a widespread focusing problem with the cameras ("inches, not feet"). He just received his second 1D and it had to go in to Canon as well, and apparently he'd had a good chat with the rep, and it's a fairly widespread problem. A view was that most users would probable USM the problem away, so a lot of people were not sending the cameras in. Hence the public service announcement :)

As above, this is not a troll, or a Canon inferiority thing. For starters, Nikon has much more serious backfocus problems with its D1 series.

Hi

the problem seems to be the 1D is "short sighted" and only focused in front of the DOF range (something like that) and not the intended focus point.

some users have reported in on dpreview and apparently at least one of them have got Canon to fix it (even though Canon did not officially acknowledge the problem)

lol! Now the 1D needs to wear spectacles in the form of filters in front of all the lenses. :D
