I'm planning a photography trip to North Korea. Either autumn 2014 or spring 2015. Anybody interested to join me? Then we can all go together as one photography group. If we can get 16 people (i think) we can all go in one bus. Reporters not allowed... Will kenna less freedom if one goes along.

I have already gone twice and here are my photos: www.facebook.com/dprk360

I interested. PM me bro.

PM you guys already.

I have a youtube video where they gave me official authorization to mount a GoPro camera on a vehicle and drive through Pyongyang.

You can check it out to get a quick look inside the city.

Seen that before. Have been following your work in DPRK. Awesome.

Hi merliondude,

Very interesting photos. thank you for sharing the rare photos showing North Korea.

You guys are following a tour group or organize your own tour? I wonder how much will it cost and how many days? A lot of paper works? I believe require all by cash payment?

The last I heard DPRK visa takes 1 month to process. But with merliondude's good standing, it might take shorter? And all trips to DPRK will be fully escorted.

My visa to go NK gets approved in less than a week.
Not sure about the rest...

I am planning to organize my own group tour. It's for anyone keen to take photos in DPRK. However, I'm not opening this trip to press, journalists or reporters as it'll throw a wrench into the trip. Such people will have to have extra paperwork and approval... not worth the trouble. The idea is to just go there, experience North Korea, have fun and shoot photos.

A lot of things are not confirmed as I haven't gotten official approval yet. I'm trying to get around 16 people (including myself) so we can all travel as one group. I've hinted to them about this concept and they seem positive with my idea. Most of you who PM me can't make it this year so tentatively it will be april/may 2015, spring time.

You will be escorted throughout the trip but photography of daily life should not be a problem. The only restriction is photography of military personnel and equipment. Other than that, there's just the way we approach photography of people there. If anyone waves and declines to be photographed, just smile, wave back and don't shoot him/her. Some folks are sensitive others are not.

So far those escorting me aren't fierce or life threatening at all... have a look at my guides, translators and officials... They are actually a fun bunch.

bro, what is the estimated cost we are looking at? mobile phone allowed?

Wow... seriously tempted. DPRK is one of the places I always wanted to visit but all my friends give me the WTF?! look whenever I mentioned it...:bsmilie:

I can't make it this year... but any tentative outline / planning for next year? Number of days? Estimated Budget? Intended Itinerary?

*drools*

PRICES (estimated. I can only confirm later on.)
Twin: $2300 (9 days) $3400 (13 days)
Single: $2600 (9 days) $3700(13 days)

I think there is also a tax and fuel surcharge but it shouldn't be more than $500
Because of the embargo on North Korea, their fuel prices get whacked very high.
I heard only one company willing to refuel planes to North Korea.

Yes mobile phones allowed. But no internet access on your phone.

Am keen bro :)

Need little more info before my Financial controller will approve the fund.

We are going for 9 days or 13 days?

Air ticket included and I know exclude fuel charge.

How much pocket money need to bring, and credit card can be used?

What is the weather like during the trip? Special clothing required?

If we are in time for the visa any of the season I can join as I am retired. Any physical exercise requirement to go up mountain or such?

Thank you and how we proceed from here?

I haven't worked out the details about the exact number of days yet cos I haven't got a chance to talk to the North Koreans about where to go. I added a 13 day option if (big IF) we can cover more ground but very likely will just be a 9 day trip as lots of people cannot just take leave easily. I'm still waiting for the right time to talk to them about this photography group tour

Spring April/May) and Autumn (end august/september) is just like aircon temperature. coldest I experienced is 16 deg and I didn't even use my jacket cos I carry all my barang barang already heat up my body. So my trips will be planned during those months.

No credit card can be used there because of the embargo so you need to pass your credit cards to wives to spend... maybe not... ha ha.

They only accept US dollars, Euro Dollars and Renminbi. I brought SG$600 worth of renminbi and US dollars, end up spend all on their souvenirs and snacks that I buy home just to give away to friends... so unless you are thinking of buying their ginseng, then can forget about bringing so much money. Nothing really to buy there.

I think visa application only need 2 or 3 weeks now.

Lenses I am told that they limit up to 200mm. I brought my 24-70mm, 70-200mm, 16mm there.
All tripod must check in
No GPS modules or GPS cameras allowed but iPhone and Android phones are allowed... funny right? Go figure... ha ha
Bring everything you need cos if you forget something, chances are you cannot buy that missing "something" there.
No camera service centre there also.

As for climbing mountain, it is easier than bukit timah hill. Twice I went to North Korea, all the group tours from Singapore all Ah-pek and Ah-um... retirees type. If they can climb, we sure can wan la... see the mountain photos already you will know it is not difficult

PM you already.

Electrical supply got no timing. You can safely charge overnight. No problem. Tourists are well taken care of so hotels you stay at do not have "cut off time"

2014 Friday 10th October 2355hrs – 2014 Saturday 18th October 2255hrs
