Can A70 users out there enlighten me on how many images can A70 store on a 256mb CF card taken with the highest resolution?

you can check the back of the manual.
It has all the numbers you will need up to 512 mb.

Strongly suggest you store your pictures in the highest possible format, 3MP fine. You can always do some post-editing later on. If you only store them under 1280X960, then you will have a problem if you want to print beyond 4R.

Unless you are very sure that low res pictures is all you need (e.g. for web use)..

I hope this is not OT but i've got a similar question - how large is the max file size of the vga (640x480) video clips taken by A70?

Regardless of the reso (i.e. 640X480 or 160X120), the file size is still the same i.e around 18MB, difference is that for low res, you can record longer (180 seconds), while for highest res, you can record 48 seconds.

if i'm not wrong, u can d/l the A70 specs at US Canon site ... they show the no. of pics taken at various resolution at different MB, and length of movie recorded at diff MB too ....

Actually, the A70 will tell u what is the max number of shot you can take by itself. No need to check manual. If you put in a 256MB CF in, go to resolution setting then on the right bottom corner will tell you the no of shot with that setting.
