I have two vr lens namely 18-55 and 18-200.

For the 18-200:
I notice 2 "tick" sound when in VR mode
-one click when the trigger is pressed half way
-a second click 1 sec after I release the trigger
-also the picture is shifting a little in view finder
-No noise when VR is off

For 18-55:
I did not notice any of the above symptoms.

Anyone can confirm if this is normal even for my lens? Thx a lot

Yeah , it is normal. Last time i even brought my 70 200 to NSC because of the same concern that TS have.
They check the lense and everything was fine. :)

the 55-200mm also has it... i would think it is normal like most said.
If in doubt still bring it to NSC which i did.
They took another unit and it was said to have a similar "tick" sound.

You should feel happy to hear the 'tick' sound. It is generated by the VR unit in the lens. So no issue at all.:)

Cool! thanks for the info.

btw TS = thread subject? blur thanks
TS = Thread Starter ;)

Since no one addressed that jumpy picture concern you have, rest assured that that's normal too. Basically the VR component is trying to correct the shake/vibration. Mine doesn't have that loud tick sound however, probably because it's too old to make loud ticks. :bsmilie:
