Nikon 5700 or Canon G3

I think http://www.dpreview.com has some detail writeup for both camera. if I would to suggest, I would say CP5700 gives you better handling.

well, both cameras have its pros and cons...

the following is what i like and dislike about both cameras.

5700
+ve
EVF view finder.. so you can see the effects of your filters if you use any.

-ve
has slow auto focus in low contrast conditions.
Difficult to get the MB-E5700, (that can be worked out)


G3
+ve
price.
the G3 + access = 5700 alone

-ve
Battery options. Proprietary batteries are expensive,
even if you by OEM batteries, its still less convenient than the AA batteries.


I guess it comes down to which short comings of the camera that you can live with...
Personally, battery options is very important for me so i choose the 5700.

I picked the G3 over the 5700 because of price, performance, quality of output. Also loved the accessories for it like 420EX flash which makes it a powerful combination. The proprietary batts is compatible with Canon's range of DSLR which I guess I will upgrade to one day. Besides, changing one batt is faster than 4. Anyway, the batt life of a G3 is pretty good.

Best is that you try out both handson and then decide.


Oh, loved the 5700 8x zoom though....

Eh.. 3rd party G3 battery is quite cheap, i read about $30 - $40 dollars? and the battery last fairly long, i personally have a G3 with a spare battery and i can say that's ennuf power to last you for a good half day or more at least. So i dont think battery is a negative point for G3

+ve side to add, swivel screen

-ve side, none that i know of, i love it very much

G3 has the longest proprietary battery life as far as I know.

I think the +ve swivel screen cannot be compared here, cos the 5700 also has a swivel screen.

G3:
+ve side, long battery power

-ve side
: No EVF, lens barrel shows up in the viewfinder when extended.

One of my camera happens to be CP5700, and I have to say that every camera has its quirks.

CP5700 is a great camera. There are more pros than cons. I find people tend to dig out 1 or 2 cons in a camera in order to dishonour it. What about the pros?

CP5700 is complex and versitle, it is an excellent camera if you can master it. It has loads of features compared to others in its class. True, & unsaturated colours. Great 8x Zoom. Swivel LCD (everone wish they have this in their camera). Compact. Exellent macro built without need for additional closeup lens)

To say that it is bad for candid, is not true. I have taken lots of candids shots and the camera seldom fail me. (Check out the candid shots link below).

I have also listed some reviews and sample user's galleries below for everyone's viewing pleasure esp the newbies.

I have to agree the CP5700 is a great camera, although slow in focus, I've done my fair share in capturing events and I've seen others use it to a good extent also

There's also good points on the G3, suggest you go down feel touch and feel it. The MP count is NOT to be considered go play the features, test the pros, forget the cons, no camera is perfect.

To me the 8x optical zoom is probably the most attractive part. I think that will come in really useful, especially for trips to the zoo, bird park, or street shooting.

i'd def say zoom is impt...

of course when u're comparing G3 to 5700...

i use a 2 megapixel (12x optical zoom) camera...these are the results...

i'd say zoom, is not everything, but better, more flexible...(esp when my 12x zoom is only 5cm long. damn flexible)
