Newbies .. Lens Filter

I am a really new to DSLR.... Just wanna know what is the purpose of lens filter...

There are too many types of photographic filters.

Apparently, when I bought a prime lens, it comes with filter...so was wondering the purpose of it until you send me the link.

You can try do a search here on filters, there are plenty of information discussed already. My word of advise, get a good filter on expensive lens.
