Let this sifu asks you first:

How heavy a lens you can carry? :)

be careful of the BBB virus....

my fren got a 55-200mm together with his d50 kit when he bought it.

actually having both the 18-55mm and the 18-70mm, i would try to dump the 18-55mm and get the 18-70mm... haa haa... I find it much better both in feel, built and weight.

i think might try to aim for a tele lens? i am a poor student, so i only got money for a 70-300mm G.

buy within you budget ba. or save up for something better....

go read up on the lens! KRW or Thom.

hope it helps! i also learning along the way ;p

it depends on what you like to shoot

on one side you can go for a WA lens - 12-24mm
and on the other side a tele - 70-300 / 80-200mm
for macro shots you can also consider a dedicated macro lens 90 or 100mm

u can try posting this in the nikon thread also... there got many nikon shen!

i thought i saw a 2nd hand AF-S VR 24-120mm f/3.5-5.6G IF-ED at B&S...i think the range is great...bbb? ;p

gd luck on len searching. most imptnt is to shoot more first then u know what u intend to get to fit in ur bill. Easily to get into the buy buy buy virus. Hehe.. cheers. haha

Welcome. I'm believe those who are committed to buying an (D)SLR system are potential artists with passion burning forever.

Before getting ur next lens. Let me ask u.... What would u like to shoot and which area of speciality u'd like to go into? If u dunno what u want to shoot, there'll be no end to buying.

Haha.. thanks for all the replies !!
It took me sometime to figure out wat is the BBB virus
it's Buy Buy Buy!! hah... okok i'll keep a close watch on myself :>

I've been taking portriats shots actually. Often event shots (of course not paid).
Sort of self-learning... ometimes i got frens to guide me by looking at my shots.

Wat I feel with my 18-55mm lens is that sometimes i can't go nearer, and ppl tend to notice me when i go nearer...
So actually tot of getting a portrait lens...

I used to take landscape shot (with canon A70) before i got my Nikon D50.
Now that I'm taking portraits shots, I can feel the challenge n of course the excitement when u got a good shot.:bsmilie:

Would be interested to take macro shots too

When I was 20 year old I could easily carry a 400mm or 500mm but could not afford to buy. Now I am much older and just save enough $ to buy but find out that I am too old and weak to carry.
Life is not fair.

There are many able-bodied female assistants for you to hire to carry your Tua Kee lenses and you too if need be. :bsmilie:

Well, its good that u're already finding ways to improve on ur shots and stuff like dat.

Maybe its not in my authority to say, but dun spoil market for working professionals ok (seeing how u say that u do FOC event shoots. I assume its for big companies and stuff like dat)? ;p

Hmm... So u want to get a tele to shoot others? Its a double-edged sword and u can be labelled as a vouyer OR a street photographer. Both of which have their overlapping grey areas.

Landscape, macro, portraits.... Seems that u haven't really made ur mind up on what things to shoot... yet.

My advice is to stick to ur 18-55, get the 55-200 on promotion (think its going for like... $199?) improve ur skills along since these 2 lenses can fulfill everything from macro, wides, to teles. And after shooting and meditation on what u truly like and found what u're chasing after, den lean towards specialisation.

And oh yes, after u specialise, dun be in a hurry to sell off ur 2 basic lenses since u'll probably need to relearn other area aspects of photography from time to time. :D

haha don't worry... it's not some commercial events. It is some events for a voluntary organization. I'm part of it and im doing it for our own use =)

ya.. that's probably true. Thanks for the advice anyway. =)

Sigma 50-500mm, can cover almost the entire range.

...dun listen to me.

18-200MM VR2 good walk around lens

nikon thread do jus discuss about nikon stuff lah. but i always try to go for nikkor lens :)

anyway, can ask the shen there techniques and other stuff.

haa haa, watch the BBB virus... very tempting....

the 55-200mm is not bad i think.
