Hi everyone! New to this forum as well as photography in general. Been using PnS for 2 years now and thinking of getting a new camera with more manual options.

Been considering between compact and DSLR and I think I will not be jumping onto the DSLR wagon so soon.

So, do you guys have any recommendations for a great compact camera (with more manual options than a traditional PnS) for a newbie?

Welcome to CS:)

You might wanna consider the Canon G11 or maybe a prosumer?

is the G11 and S90 consider a prosumer type?

If you don't want to try a dSLR yet, can consider a superzoom, like the Nikon P100, or Fujifilm Finepix S2500 HD or Fujifilm Finepix JS10.

May consider this as well, as they give you controls similar to a dSLR.

Cheers!

hi,

maybe can consider s90, very small also haha, or u consider the canon G series, full manual functions for u to play with and also has hotshoe for u to mount a flash too if u r into it next time : )

Welcome:)

Personally, at the price for purchasing a prosumer camera, I think it's probably wiser to buy a Sony a230 from MS Colours, which they are having a promotion and selling only at $520. :)

Thanks for all the welcome message.

Personally I think I will feel strange (Can say embarassed) if I walk around with a DSLR but am a noob actually, thats why I wanna get to play around with compacts more first before stepping into the DSLR world. Is it strange for me to think this way? Haha :)

Good advice, the image quality of DSLR is definitely better because of the bigger sensor.

Welcome to CS. Don't hesitate to go straight to DSLR, start early better than later.

Why feel embarrassed walking around with a DSLR? In Singapore, its not such a rare sight anymore compared to the past. Be proud that you are actually willing to learn more and shoot more:)

Oh no I am swaying already lol...

a230 at 520 does seems tempting man, especially when considering the price of the prosumer cameras...

Hmmm need to consider somemore first...

Sorry Sorry!! My mistake. It's $590 instead of $520. It's still cheaper then 1000D, D3000~!
Get Dslr, trust me. Pay a little bit more to gain better control of the machine. One decent prosumer camera is just cheaper than a Dslr marginally... in fact, some are even more costly...

Go get it!!

Yesterday I went to the Harvey Norman Sale at Expo, and they are sell a230 kit plus 55-200mm lens for $799. Also not bad.

Hi, I'm new here. Have used a friend G11 - it's great. Shortlist and try it out at the store.
