Hi, I'm a newbie.
I would like to learn more about basic digital photography.
Any good instructors to recommend?
Hmm.. is it really compulsory to bring along a DSLR in the course?
I only have a compact digital camera.

A DSLR is not compulsory. Search 'velasco' on this forum. He's using a P&S (compact) and is shooting really fine images.
All I relied on was Google, some books from the library. Read up on colours, composition rules, and not to mention, read the manual. Find out what is shutter speed, aperture, ISO speed. Then, browse more through the forum and you'll definitely pick up more stuff. Lastly, keep shooting, let us comment so that you can learn from where you fell.

Books are your best instructors! Go to the library and read as many books as possible! Cheers and shoot more. :)

Hello...welcome.

While DSLR is not compulsory, it may be good to have a cam which allows you to have manual controls. Do read up on the relationship between Aperture, Shutter Speed and ISO.

Thank you so much for your help.
BTW I would like to know any difference between 14-42 mm and 18-55 mm?
Which is better?
