Anybody has any insider info or heard any rumor on new lens to replace the
AF-S Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8G ED?
It was introduce in 2007 and I am thinking of buying it while I am in US.. Wondering if a new version will be introduce anytime soon?

No information of such a replacement yet..

Don't think they'll replace the 24-70 so soon. Unless they wanna add VR

Heard that they've registered some patents for a variable-aperture (i.e. cheaper) lens in the 24-70 kind of range.

Ha ha actually I'm prefer the lens when zooming for the front head better is made like 17-35mm or 16-35mm no extended.

Sorry is call internal zoom.

Cause I saw the canon mark 2 is quite longer extend than the mark 1

Especially the dust can be easily go in :)

With the hood on, you can't even see the extension on the 24-70

No this time the hood is attached from the front head filter ring and zoom to extend together look much ugly :)

The new design just like sigma 24-70mm.

There is a reason why they did not do IF for 24-70. If not, they would have already done it.

I believe if you make it IF, the lens will be very big and heavy.

BTW if this is same preform like 3rd party,
why not just getting the 3rd party one..

Cause not much diff for new design.
Look like more worst than the 1st version.

Performance is more than just about a protruding inner barrel...

Hope to be upgrade from 20, 24 and 105 & 135 DC.

For the 18 & 20mm f1.8G, I think is not longer will be pop up on the market.

All info can be find in Nikonrumors

You were asking why they did not change the design and do IF. I am just telling you that if they do IF, the lens will be huge and heavy.
