Tried it, it looks as sturdy as the 35/2.4 but AF not as fast. Wasn't sharp at various f stops so likely needed calibration but I wouldn't want to risk it so didn't buy it.

I have same issue, AF not fast on the Kr versus DA35/2.4 . There is also focussing off the mark for an object 2-3 metre away, I am not sure if it is my Kr or the lens but I have not been able to get sharp image in good light and lousy focus in low 6-7pm low light. Would post some shots tonight. tried fine tune adjustment focus +/-1,2,3 , does not seem to be out of focus actually as +/-1,2 the image is blurred more.

Sorry to hear that. For me I try focus on contour subject and do AF adjustment accordingly until where ever I point the sharpness is good. Primitive but works fine for me. Perhaps you may try Google to find better way on AF adjustment.

Try taking a few pics in live view mode. Live view af is slower but usually more accurate than regular af, and it is not dependent on any fine tuning. You should be able to determine how sharp the lens is wide open without any doubt from the af

The leaf on the right seems to be in-focus and nothing else, that is how shallow the dof is, especially if the subject distance is pretty close to the lens.

You might want to do some focus tests with an easier subject to see how much dof you have and the af accuracy too.

You might want to bump up your iso a bit at 1/13 if not held stabily contributes (especially with a short tele) to soft pics.

These are pretty challenging situations with lots of possible factors affecting the photos.
Furthermore, DOF may be too thin for some shots.
#1 - Spider on web. Easily moved with light gusts of wind. Not to mention that perhaps you are not at your most steady. DOF too thin for such shots.

#2 - The center of the flower is somewhat 'dimensional' with protruding parts. This can confuse AF to focus on the wrong part of the focus area. Again, its hard to determine if there was no wind or human error in the shot. DOF is thin, its expected.

#3 - 1/13 shutter speed is certainly not a good way to check sharpness or focus.

I suggest you try on something more controlled and 2D, like a text on a book cover or something of that sort.
Use a tripod and use the self-timer or remote for shutter release.
Eliminate the possible sources of error first.

Maybe I could line up AA batteries and check DOF and AF.

I had a manual K 50mm f1.7 lens before and it was able to capture very good bright images in poor light conditions when wide open.

Uhm no, given the same iso aperture and metering pattern, speed should be the same for the same exposure.

Like I said bump your exposure, use flash or have a stable base.

Shutter too slow? Think you could be using aperture mode with F1.8 but in a low light condition. Thats why the shutter speed needs to be slower. Try TAv mode. 1/13 really needs you to be very still.

In the case of my K5, when I select Av mode the shutter automatically choose a number that is quite usable for stationary subject.
