New Camera Store @ Sim Lim Square Level 6 - Orient Photo Pte Ltd

I come across this new camera store while window shopping at Sim Lim Square today. Orient Photo Pte Ltd is owned by a Chinese national. The owner, Lynn Chen, cannot really understand or speak English well. I have to communicate in mandarin, which is a task for the English-speaking me.

Most of their gears are grays from, you guess it, Mainland China.

Some of their items include:

Nikon D200 for S$2,100 (gray, Chinese words on the box)
Nikon 18-200 VR for S$1,180 (gray)
Nikon SB800 for S$580 (gray)
Fuji S5 Pro for S$2,800 (local set, the highest price I have seen so far)
Shanghai Seagull 4A-109 for S$480 (gray)
Some Gitzo tripods (I did not check the prices)
China made Pelikan case look-alike cases.

the price is not much of a difference compare to those stated in the nikon sub forum pricelist
and is nikon original warranty.

I will still get the original local warranty set ..

If they are planning to sell their wares to tourists, their staff must brush-up their English. Even non-chinese locals will have difficulties understanding them sometimes.

Not only it is waterproof, it is human proof too. The latch is very stiff and tight, unless that of the original Pelican case.

her price not attractive at all if it is china grey set, in fact, most of china grey set D200 below S$2k , SB800 just S$500 and VR18-200 only S$1080-1100 if you go to the grey set shop in china.

I dont suggest people go for grey set since quite lots of issues about the warranty and service... now CANON and NIKON service centers get very hard to those greys.......:bheart:

If the china made Pelikan case look-alike cases are cheap, i wouldn't mind getting one. Not so much for protection against the elements but more so just for the damping when I travel.

She can speak proper English
Probably got the wrong person
As shop is still new
Perhaps got to give a chance to prove
If product is genuine why not save some money

this is only abt $65 cheaper than a local set with warranty....not worth it.

True.... You never know what the Chinese did to their products. I recall hearing horror stories about 'genuine' Rolex watches sold in China.

Lynn's English is quite okay (I still find difficulties understanding her English spoken with mandarin undertones) even though she did have problem understanding my 'Americanized-Singlish'. However, her sales staff do not speak English at all.

By the way, they do sell Canon products.

No, Canon products never interest me... well except their photocopiers.
