Hi guys, appreciate your time and advise on this.

how do you shoot a subject (kid/model) walking towards you. i find it difficult to lock focus even with ai servo. am shooting with my 30d 70-200 at f2.8.

how fast is the person moving? u want to freeze action?

if u want to freeze action, ask the subject walk really slow. but then the hair might have movement blur?

How about using a faster shutter speed?

The trick with AI servo is to;

1. Get focus with the centre AF point
2. It takes about 0.5 sec for AI Servo to lock on, so either the first shot is OOF or wait 0.5 sec before taking first shot, either way it's OK.
3. Keep at least 1 cross type AF sensor on the subject at all times (not sure how many cross-type sensors and which one the 30D has). This works better if you keep the centre AF point on the subject at ALL times.

Do not expect every shot to be perfect, AI servo is good, but there are limitations.

thanks guys for your reply.

If you are using 30d 70-200 at f2.8 DOF is very narrow, and set mininium speed at least 1/250 and faster to cut down the blur.

just wondering if focus trapping would help in a mentioned situation.

Sometimes besides all these 'theories' it is the experience and the confidence to execute them that counts. Keep trying!
