Need some help on focusing....

Hi guys, i am very new to photography and just got myself a nikon D40X....

i have some problems with my focusing. Whenever i want to take a group photo, some of my friends in the pic is out of focus.

The camera settings Auto and i press-half to get the object into focus and snap. The focus is only on the object but not the rest of the people in the pic.

Can someone help/advice me with this?

Hi Ferderico,

Without seeing the pic, I could only guess that your problem is caused by the depth of field (DOF) of your lens settings which is natural. Try this: line them up in one straight, and then taken a pic with the line of people parallel to the back (focal plane) of you camera. Hope this help.

Usually for taking a group photo

Recommend to use
- A mode with f5.6 or smaller
- External flash, flash head direct or with diffuser
- Speed for handheld min. is 1/60sec
- Focal length - wide to mid range like 24mm to 50mm
