Need some advice regarding Lens bokeh

Hello Guys/Gals,

I looking for an F-Mount Std Zoom lens with the best creamy bokeh.
Unfortunately, most review dont rate the bokeh in detail.

Would Nikon 24-70 F2.8 be the best candidate ?
I dont mind 3rd party lense as well.

Appreciate any input from the senior here.

Bokeh is a very subjective topic. Each photographer has his / her own personal interpretations. There is a thread on CS "Bokeh Monster",

inside the thread you will get to see various pics taken with zoom lens, short & long primes.

A standard zoom like the 24-70mm will give nice but limited bokeh due to the shorter focal length & aperture of f/2.8.

For the best creaminess, photographers will usually use primes with large apertures.

Get a >100mm lens, they will give you a better bokeh.

Thanks for all the inputs

I shoot mostly when traveling...landscape, portrait, food etc.
Not changing lens is important for me as sometime weather/situation just do not allow.
So I'm looking for a standard zoom lens rather than a prime.
I have heard the legendary DC series...pity havent a chance to try them out

I am satisfied with my Sigma 50-150 F2.8 non-OS with regards to Bokeh. (but i need a normal zoom)
I rented the Nikon 24-70 F2.8 before, Bokeh way better than my current Sigma 17-70mm. (both non-OS & OS version)
I will say this are my benchmark for the new Std Zoom i'm looking for.
Only considering FF as i will upgrade from DX soon.

I was thinking of the Sigma 24-105 F4, not sure if the Bokeh can rival the above lens in term of Bokeh.
Appreciate sharing your experience if anyone have tried the other Std Zoom from other maker.

Yes i agree but not many would pay that amount of price for the AF DC 105/135mm F/2D.

Hi,

Checked out the Bokeh Monster...
Particularly impressed by the MC Rokkor 58mm f/1.2
Zeiss as well as some others.

Unfortunately, I'm not a MF or Lens Mount Adapter person.
So I guess the more likely candidate would be Nikon, Sigma or Tammy std Zoom.

Didnt have any experience with Sigma or Tammy F2.8/4 Std Zoom.
Any chance they can rival the original Nikon when it comes to Bokeh ?

Here is a shot from the Nikkor 24-120 mm f/4. At f/4 the subject needs more separation from the background.

Additionally, you can always invest in a cheap prime. 50mm f1.8 with FF body is just nice and will give you good amount of blur.

I hope Nikon will re-release both DC lenses in the near future. Still patiently waiting...
