Need help on starting table top studio equipment

Hi, I need help finding a affordable quality table-top studio, preferbly with a dedicated studio table thingy (Forgot wat its called..) and a suitable amount of flashes with softboxes.. I'm not too good with studio photography equipment but this is for long-term investment by my dad's company so if anybody can help me with this and give me a ballpark figure of money so i can discuss with my dad. by the way, this studio is for our product photography...

Hi nickmak,
i think the light set up will cost the most - table size will depend on the size of the product and being in Thailand i am sure u can find good carpenters to custom make a table if u really need one - there is some info on a basic DIY set-up here

thx for the link... Thing is what type of flashes should I use... I'm not used to studio photography so I need somebody to help me with what type of flash and external equipment to use... Btw my product is only the size of a pencil case so anything bigger like big flash no need...

Hi nickmak,

I assume that u are doing the shooting digital - if u read some of the articles a small product shoot set-up can be done with one light n a light tent which can just be a piece of white cloth with a light directed through it
don't know what ur budget or ur product is but again read up on the articles - the cheapest way is DIY with hot lights which are basically tungsten lights - 4 x 150W lamps with those large industrial reflectors will be equivalent to a 500-600W studio strobe - have a carpenter make a few simple stands n then power up n adjust ur WB - advantages r that u can use available light n won't need flashmeter (use $ to get a macro instead) - vary exposure times to change dof - disadvantage is that ur product may melt before the shoot is finished....
these r very basic answers - u have to read up n figure out what ur needs are

thanks so much... now I won't need to dig in my pocket to get them studio equipment... I'd prefer the DIY way u mentioned... haha... dun worry, product not chocolate so won't melt... i think before it melt it being eaten by me already! haha! sorry - can't comment on the Akira except to say that $599 buys a lot of hot lights - strobes not critical in non-moving product shots - with strobes u also have to budget for a flashmeter....

Do u know how much this set might cost and do they have the things stated there at a shop like CP? I think this might be the solution to this one time long term investment...
