actually if u think ur kid has great photographic potential jus get a beginner's DSLR. even d cheapest DSLR has its advantage over pro-sumers.

regardless of the type of cam, mayb should think in terms of pros & cons of each system. mayb a prosumer could be the ideal choice too. i remembered Panasonic's FZ50 going at a discount not too long ago. it does handle like a (manual zoom & focus ring) DSLR w/ the advantages of a viewable swivel LCD for those low angle shots.

oh, mayb some should remind the TS tt tt CCD/CMOS is betta protected if lenses cant be removed.

Lol. Scratch the focusing screen out! rawr! :bsmilie:

sometimes it sounds like some "older" folks here quite jealous kids these days got such dotting parents...

opinions aside, buy a cam tt is not too weighty, well specified, robust, etc... a camera is a tool, a betta camera makes a difference between getting a shoot & missing a shot. even if compact digicams r packing so much more features but many eventually hop on e DSLR bandwagon. no?

can a PnS really do it all?.. then y so many ppl buy DSLR (judging by e ever increasing *blah-blah* DSLR user group name/nick list) har?
