Hi people. Is this lens compatible with Canon 500D? EF 20mm f2.8 USM.

Am looking for a wide angle lens, and also able to take group photos in events. Is this lens able to make it?

Yes it is compatible. It's not really very wide on a crop body though. 20mm works out to 32mm focal length on your 500D.

Yes, it is compatible... and how big is your group, where is the event, what is the environment, etc etc.

I suggest the following:

1. Canon 10-22
2. Sigma 10-20
3. Sigma 8-16
4. Tokina 11-16

All are excellent lenses and are well suited for indoor shots, landscape, architectural, etc.

to add on, if you will be using the inbuilt flash, you will probably see the shadows casted on the ground.

more to add on, for a ultra-wide lens, i feel that the user need to possess some knowledge in order to yield proper result.

as the UWA lens exaggerates the depth of the photo, improper placement of human subjects within the frame MAY result in in-proportional size of body parts. not forgetting that the slight tilting of the lens will skew the perspective of the photo as well.

just some points to take note of.

I would suggest the Tokina 12-24mm... I have one and I loved it. But at f4 you would definitely need the flash indoor (when the lighting is not really that good).

You haven't spend much time reading the basics of Canon equipment... The lens has an EF mount, the camera can take EF lenses as well as EF-S lenses. Have a look in your manual and the Canon website, specifications for lenses.

First question - yes.
second question - it depends on many factors, doesn't it?
