When I take pictures at ISO 200, 1/60 sec. & f5.6, using the Auto-A mode of the F32X; I get sharp images on my subjects, however, the background lighting would appear dim.

But when the aperture is switched to eg. f2.8 using similar settings, the background lighting improves significantly. The setback is the smaller DOF which is not good when taking group photos or portraits.

Can someone kindly offer some good advice here?
:dunno:

try 1/20sec
flash able to freeze the subject..

My only worry if I set the shutter speed to 1/20 or 1/30 is camara shake. But I guess that is the only option. Will setting the ISO to 400 make a difference?

ISO400 is good enough to capture the ambient light but you gonna get a lot grains with Sony.

Well, like I said, flash freezes the subject so handshake "effect" is little.

Better still, bounce the flash if there is a low ceiling on top of you.. make a bounce card if you are free.

Does using a bounce flash freezes the subject better or direct flash?
