Need advice - D90

Hi.
I just bought a D90 recently and I realised that it can't take B&W photos.
Do you know which Nikon DSLR has B&W function?
The D90 is my first DSLR.

Congrats on your new purchase.

Your D90 can do it. all you needed to do was to open your manual, and search.

Or else go Google and type in "D90 Black and White Photos"

Or you can always do it during post processing on the computer. Tons of software being able to do it.

Obviously you have yet to read the manual, or even fiddle with it? Go to Shooting Menu - Set Picture Control - Monochrome. Walah... that's B&W.

Huh? Black and White right? You mean you can't see Monochrome in your picture controls?

nope! i read the manual and searched the whole camera and it's functions.
but i don't see monochrome on it. i followed your instructions and there isn't monochrome.

Is it bound to certain modes? I know that on Canon in the Basic Zone (all preset modes including Green Dummy Mode certain controls are disabled.

Perhaps you can't be in any scene modes to access the monochrome menu.

This is why I dislike scene modes in my camera.

Right - monochrome is only an option with manual settings. Therefore converting to B&W must be done through post-processing for the scene modes.

Just convert it later on during post processing. You gain more control over the tones and brightness.

I think it is better to acquire in colour and convert to BW. Once u acquire it in BW, it impossible to convert to colour.

for your info, if you shoot raw ViewNX could bring the color back...

That's because the RAW image is not in B&W, it's just the embedded JPEG preview image that gets modified.

press the OK button to bring up the editiing menu.
