oh no!

SEOUL (AFP) - – Several North Korean artillery shells landed on a South Korean border island Tuesday, damaging homes and causing injuries, YTN television reported.

A resident of Yeonpyeong island near the tense Yellow Sea border told YTN by phone that some 50 shells landed and dozens of houses were damaged, with some people hurt.

The South's defence ministry could not immediately confirm damage or casualties.

"A North Korean artillery unit staged an illegal firing provocation at 2:34 pm and South Korean troops fired back immediately in self-defence," a ministry spokesman told AFP.

What the heck with N.Korea!!!
They want to start a WAR? :nono:

Testing waters loh. See how far they can push S.Korea.

Latest update says S.Korean soldier killed during the arty strike!

pardon moi french, but... *******s. wth are the NK doing sia.. wanna start WW3 for the fun of it?

maybe their shells has an expiry date?

From what type of big guns? If it is tank, during training or target firing, remember need to use rope to tie the main gun to prevent the rounds from hitting JB. Else the gunner will become instant hero liao :bsmilie::bsmilie:

Maybe the N.Korean military commanders were itching for a fight, so they reported to the brass that the south started the firing first.

By looking current world status, starting a war is unlikely la. Neither China or Russia would want war, if they going to support NK, it would be limited.

Though, US and Jap will definitely support SK if NK invade.

Sick country...........

What happen, they made a new missiles but don't know the range so while testing go beyond the range :embrass:.
Hopefully there will be not another war, economy is already in deep s hit.

The son young lah.. very brash, want to show his control of power, etc... So they fire lor. Somemore, news about them carrying on with the uranium enrichment, despite the 6 way talks and all that...

I say he just want to show off - Like any young brash fellow who just got into power... Must have something to "brag" about mah - Cannot be got nothing to show that the country is good and they are in control, etc... So must start something lor... If not how to live up to take over his daddy's position!?!?

Very minor.
Obviously not serious.
Serious is when DPRK attack with 30 divisions across DMZ.
DPRK is in no shape to war with others.
Don't lose any sleep over this.

The real monster is Japan. (Not the hollow DPRK) Never forget this.

Once it is allowed to militarise again, Japan is a world power. They can become nuclear power rapidly.
Their weapons will be very advanced. Japan has advanced electronics, miniaturisation and robotics. Even US got to learn from Japan on germ/biological weapons after WW2.

public opinion is a very big deal in japan... its no longer like pre-WWII.

the general public are very outspoken and very conservative.

also consider the current and past few slate of politicians are pretty clueless.

Yeah... Japan is now quite different from its pre-WWII days.

I am more worry about China than Japan. In its early days after PRC took over ROC, it fought with US during Korean War, fought with India over border dispute, fought with Vietnam because it wants to teach it a lesson and amassed troop in China-Soviet border and had clashes after their relationship broke. Is remarkably amazing not many seems to remember and not many seems to realise China can be very aggressive. China is the only nation had openly fought with the 2 global powers in our modern history.

N.Korea is lucky that the South doesn't have a military policy that is like Israel if not, Pyongyang would probably be occupied by now.

israel position is unique... even till today they feel they have no true allies and think consistently badgered by anyone who is not jewish. i have tremendous respect for the jewish nation and jewish people, despite their hard handed approaches.

but yes, i praise south korea for its patience and perseverance. a lot of countries could have gone to full out war with lesser provocation than that (or in this case, to break the armistice).

i note that a lot of south koreans i have spoken with ultimately want to see reunification so that is the main cause of restrain. i suppose they still view north korea to be 'their' people - misguided, mistreated but nonetheless their own countryman.
