My first try on 'infrared' model

Went for outdoor fashion photography today Saturday 7th August 2010.

Sky was not sunny, so some artificial lighting were used.

Not sure whether i done the skintone correctly.

I do some test adjustment on the photo to make it alive. Increase on red and reduce yellow, curve to bring the color back, increase brightness and contrast. I will remove it if you do not like it.

u need to watch out for the sharpness in your portraits. they look quite blurred did you shoot at a low shutter speed?
like airforce1 explained, you will need to adjust the brightness and contrast. you also need to adjust the skin tone so it doesnt look too cold, i like what the skin tone you have in #2.

To bro limwhow: I just follow the instruction on skintone colour as posted in the sticky in this IR forum. No, i didn;t change my filter. I am still using my D70-IR with the R72 filter inside it.

To bro takeshi.lum: Yes, i think i overdo the 'lens-blur' effect as instructed in the skintone colour instruction posted in the sticky in this IR forum. Maybe i will try to re-do them. My D70-IR is not calibrated. No i wasn't using a slower shutter speed even though i was shooting in manual mode. May i have your advices on how to make my pic sharper straight-out-of-cam, without using 'sharpener' in PP?

to bro LxChuA: Glad you like the soft-dreamy effects. But like what bro takeshi.lum siad... mine were too blurred, so i will need to re-do them.

For me, I usually shoot at f5.6 to get sharp portraits, especially on the facial areas.

I'm using D70 and its focus points are near the center, I can't compose like what I do with my D300, so I focus somewhere near to eyes/face and recompose it in PP. That's why I used f5.6 to shoot.

If I need the soft focus then I add it in during PP.

Bro I just the opposite... I will shoot with the biggest hole tat I can find in the lens... Because I like the dreaming effect tat bro SDW doing.. Portrait there is no fix rule... I saw from a famous shooter his portrait all blurr blurr... Hope this help...")

Yes i did focus my shots by 'pin-pointing' at her eyes using the D70's 3d-matrix. Same when using my D300 for normal colour photog.

Strange, i was advised by some seniors and very experienced ir-photographers alike to use at f8 and above.

Maybe i should try to shoot at f5.6 for my next model 'infrared' photog session.

i find the light condition sometimes is too dark to shoot at f8 because I would usually not go beyond ISO400, I have very low tolerance for noise. this is just personal preference though.

i would go for f8 and above for landscapes.

Yup, in landscape we would want things to be as sharp as possible. But in portraits, some things need not be as sharp, except the eyes, and we want to get nice bokehs. So I tend to keep my aperture larger.
