Road side macros! Ha! Who says there is nothing to shoot.

Some arachnids.

#1: good environmental shot of this fella. Good focus on eyes, abdomen is a tad soft.

#2: good focus on eyes again. But flash is pretty harsh.

#3: Flash harsh, the whites are hot

#4: is oof.

Your flash need to be better controlled. Its very directional, and casting shadows that mask details. Its also harsh, esp on white subjects that tend to be hot if the flash is too strong.

Try to bring the flash to the lens level.
 

Thanks for the advice, bro.

I was using a single, hotshoe mounted Speedlite with a Stofen capped. The Speedlite was set to ETTL and positioned at the lowest angle to the front. Was hoping the diffuser will spread the luminescence but it seems not enough. For my next round of shoot I will try to either swivel it slight off front or use a ringflash to spread the lighting around subject, hopefully will improve.
