Hello, I have a Nikon D3000 + 18-55mm kit lens currently, and im thinking of buying a new lens with about 18-200mm so I will not have to change lens when I'm travelling.

Can anybody recommend some lens for me to look for?

My budget is only about $500 hence Nikon 18-200mm is out for me :(

May rent/buy/buy a secondhand lens :)

Thank you! :)

I'm looking at nikon 55-200mm too :) are all sigma/tamron lens compatible with my nikon d3000?

You can consider sigma 18-200mm F3.5-6.3 DC

55-200mm is less than 500 bucks for sure.

Theorically yes if it's Nikon mount and there's a motor inside the lens. You still can use those lenses without motors but you need to manaul focus yourself as D3000 don't have a built-in motor inside the body.

but AF wont work using my d3000 right?

chillicutter: i've emailed a few shops and its about $290. just wondering if it will be more worth it to spend alittle more to buy secondhand sigma 18-200mm f3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM or just the new 55-200mm nikon and my current 18-55mm?

Hmm... If the second hand 18-200mm is in good condition and fits your budget, go for it.

Btw, I think you can get lesser than $290 for the 55-200mm... Have you tried SLRR?

You can also sell your 18-55mm away to increase your budget.

Nope. So far the lowest price quoted was from alanphoto(sim lim sq), $210 before gst. but alanphoto(funan) quoted me $390+ O_O?

Sim Lim.... LOL

There is only one photography shop in all of Sim Lim that's trustworthy, and that's Orient Photo. Other than that, avoid like the plague. Get quotes from Cathay, SLRR, MS Color too.
