Multicoat UV/polarizer worthit??

Hi guys..

i bought a cheapo UV filter + cir polarizer (UV was hoya, the circular tokina)

i think both were mono coat only...

so far the results were pretty unsatisfactory.. instead of getting nice clear high contrast shots, it looks like as if my shots just got a little shade of gray on top of it...

I can see some of the contrast increase, but the entire picture looks darker and dark gray/blackish..
like as if u use those low quality sun glasses w/o polarizing lens..

Is it because my filter are low quality mono coated?

or is it because i just dunno how to use...

BTW: I rotate my polarizer until the max effect was seen...


If i buy a multicoated, would my shots be better?

u think i shd spend 100+ on a Hoya Super MC cir polarizer?

or even better spend 200+ on a B+W MC Polarizer?

I don't see any fantastic "deep blue" skies or anything...

someone help?

You might be experiencing some veiling flare on your pics. A multi-coated one will help prevent this from happening.

Don't expect fantastic blue skies from just a polarizor. The effect is pretty mild, with increased colour saturation and contrast overall.

U need Graduated coloured filters and slide film and some luck for those over-the-top colourful skies.

u must know how a polariser works first (at least the photography part, not the science part). a polariser is no magic filter that will give one that nice deep blue sky unless one learns how to harness it.
