Movie Crop: Equal to digital zoom?

Hi just checking, is movie crop on a 550d equal to the analogy of using digital zoom on a digital camera? Will cropping using software like Windows Movie maker be better?

so technically, it ain't really digital zoom.

Seems good. With a 1.6X crop 7.2X movie crop, it will become a 10X magnifier. A 85mm f1.8 lens will become 850mm f1.8... Amazing isn't it?
