Most Popular Source-Available OTFE "TrueCrypt" Abruptly Forced Out Of Development

One of the most popular source-available On-The-Fly disk Encryption (OTFE) "TrueCrypt" was abruptly forced out of development due to "unfixed security issues" with an advisory for users to switch over to Microsoft BitLocker Drive Encryption (BDE) instead in a sudden and unexpected twist of fate [01] [02] [03] [04].

Words going around the cryptographer circles online is that National Security Agency (NSA) aka "The Puzzle Palace" is responsible for pulling the plugs behind the scenes.

Network World said:

There is the possibility that TrueCrypt's abrupt end-of-life is actually a warrant canary, triggered by a secret subpoena or National Security Letter (NSL) and resulting in a Lavabit-like end.
