Monochrome

Hi,

I'm using a 500D which i got recently. And i took some photos in monochrome.
They are in CR2 format. When it opens up it photoshop, it appears in colour.
When photoshop opens it, i select the "As shot" for the camera raw.

I know i can select the "Convert to greyscale" but question is that how come
it appears in colour when i selected monochrome and even was displayed as monochrome
in the camera when i viewed the pic

RAW is basically untouched data.

For a file to be unsaturated (what in camera 'B&Ws' or 'monochromes' actually are), it has to be processed in the camera, which is why you see the jpeg preview (LCD previews are in jpeg) as a monochrome file, but the RAW remains untouched.
