1. In what area is critique to be sought?
Playing with silhouette. Taken in burst mode, I managed to get this ONE shot with her arms up in the air, as if to stop the sun from setting. I had decided to add some dreamy effect in pp; but not quite sure if it works better without, or leave it sharp and crispy.

Composition wise, I realised she was too far on the right, but which I had cropped away some distractions.

2. what one hopes to achieve with the piece of work?
Is this what they call it as "the decisive moment"? I hoped to have achieved it.

3. under what circumstance is the picture taken? (physical conditions/emotions)
Sunset in sentosa, Exposure: 0.02 sec (1/50) Aperture: f/10.0 Focal Length: 34 mm

4. What the critique seeker personally thinks of the picture
I was glad this lady tourist was in front of me; to produce such silhouette, instead of the usual sunset photos against the coconut trees and the sea. She had become the centre of attraction in my piece here.

All other comments are greatly appreciated. :)

Bro, very interesting perspective...

the first time i saw this picture, i already know whats the story behind it without even thinking much.

Addonmore:

And after i read your description, i found out that the lady in the picture is someone whom you don't know? coooool

thumbs up :)

Maybe clone out the 3 balls on the left as they add nothing but distracts from the image.

Its a pity the silhouette of the 'mum' overlapped with your background. I believe moving around and shooting from another perspective would improve your shot. Also, you could try making the sky a lil more dramatic by boosting the saturation .

Hi

I agree that the merging of your subject's silhouette with the background has weakened the shot somewhat. Also, as I believe this was a 'candid' shot, short of getting down low infront of her, I dont think moving or changing perspective will help separate the background.

you'll nv know. Move backwards, go higher ground if it permits.

The Silhouette is not will defined. The Background and the lady seemed to have merged together... Dreamy... Can't see it working here.

Take this as ref: http://www.asiangeo.com/images/awb_results/humanity.jpg

Some fill light would have help to make the lady stand out. Composition Ok.

Some... unconventional Guide line...If people take up to 4 secs to look at this photo... you are likely to have impressed the viewer.. good or bad... can't say. Decisive moment... well... for you...

No comments. You would need f/5.6 below to be able to see the face of the lady. Why f/10 for shooting people? Aim to create Silhouette? Or simply shot in in P,A,S Auto (without flash) mode?

- As in in comment 1... Silhouette did not help here...

Some of my semi-silhouette pics.

not decisive enough. and don't know why calling a lady tourist " mom ".

As mentioned... the BG blocks the subject from becoming a proper silhoutte figure.

Do try again. :)

Thanks for ALL the replies, guys.
It was a spur of the moment, something I have very little time and chance to shoot this. It may appear amateurish for some, pleasing for others, but I'm just seeking opinions from everyone who could and might have done better pieces. Of course there's always rooms for improvements.

Yes, I agree the BG is kinda distracting, not sure abt the 3 balls tho; but given another opportunity, does it mean it would be better without that sorta background? I'll need to get somewhere else then, but cant be sure I'll get the tourist / someone else to pose the exact same thing; unless of course, its a model shoot.

Tourist - Mom; she was calling out to her son at that moment. That was the immediate catchline I can think of.

i read your title first before seeing the picture... i expected a mom gesturing stop to her kids or somethin like that.. then i saw the pic... it threw me off. some other title maybe? but i like the pic :)
