kyokushin Karate Singapore, Patrick Dojo will be hosting a mini tournament on 15 th april 2012 at tampines sports hall.

time is 1330 to 1500.

photographers interested to shoot a indoor sporting even are welcome (must stress this is not a TFCD request, nothing will be requested from any photographers at the end of the day)

16 fighters are scheduled. although its just a small, internal event, there are several very heavy hitters from several countries (Spore, China, USA, Switzerland etc). kyokushin competition is bare knuckle, full contact, knock down style with no protective gear.

more info can be had from

Dojo æ¦ wu

i will be there from morning onwards (for the grading). while no expert, i can share w newbies some suitable setting, shooting angles etc.

all are welcome (shooting or not) :).

I have experience in close combat photography especially in terrible gym lighting conditions without using flash and have been photographer for grading exercises as well as tournament level. Would be a pleasure to shoot at the event. Can i come earlier to check settings?

I specialize in action shots like this.

hi, many thanks for the interest.

the lighting condition is not that bad, a mixture of artificial lighting plus some window light. iso 800 to 1600 should suffice for freezing the action (and i will be using my v slow kit lens, so those of you w faster optic should be fine).

i am sort of resident voluntary photographer, and we should be able to negotiate a little regarding keeping the background clean to even pulling the whole mat nearer to the window (must stress, no guarantee, cus its a traditional martial art w strict hierarchy system, and i am no committee member/black belt).

Wong Kai Zhee | Facebook

some example can be found in my photo album in my facebook.

kyokushin karate bouts are bareknuckle w/o any protective gear. so the sound of knuckle digging into ribs can be pretty staggering!

latest update:

more than a few expressed interest in this event, so i reconfirm with my instructor. no worry, all are welcome, jus turn up, walk in.

fights will be with small gloves (not boxing gloves) and shin pad. reason being its a selection tournament for a bigger fight in sept. must prevent unnecessary injuries to fighters.

there is no need to confirm your attendance. i will be there from 0945 onwards.

see you!

*1000 till 1300 will be grading.
competition starts 1330.
grading also can shoot if u ve time and interest, but competition definately more thrilling.

i think its a joyous occasion, the fighters fought hard, audience cheered loud, and motordrive blasting away in hi-mode.

many thanks to all fellow photographers for turning up to support.
