micro SDHC + SD Adapter compatible with non SDHC?

I need to change memory cards for an old camera (nikon 5200) that I got my paws on.

The thing runs on SD and not SDHC cards.

Just wondering, will it recognise micro SDHC card + SD adapter as a non SDHC SD card?

NO.
SD adapter is only a physical adapter with no chipset inside. SDHC or not will be depended on your memory card chipset.
