May Spring Cleaning for ClubSNAP

As part of an ongoing effort to provide a better Photography Community, a number of sub-forums have been removed and/or merged with immediate effect.

The changes are detailed as follows:-

Photo Projects - temporarily removed and will be relaunched as POTW/POTM once the details has been finalised. ETA for POTW/POTM is May 19th.

Members Portfolios and Critique has been removed and posts in these two sub-forums will be moved into the individual sub-forums under the Photo Galleries according to their content.

With the removal of Portfolio and Critique. members will post their images and portfolios under the respective Photo Gallery sub-forums, and we urge the other members to provide their critiques, opinions and advise for the poster to gather constructive feedback.

Consumers Corner and Photographic Services have been merged.

Other changes - the Search function will be changed to enable 3-char searches (currently set to 4-char).

Just to add on to Darren's note : the change to the Search function will take effect from Monday (5th May) onwards.

Good that the search is going to be changed to 3 char. But still can't search for some items like F5.

ah well, can't please everyone all the time.

We enable 2-char search, later someone will come in and say "Can't search for the 'X' in Dimage X? How about 1-char search?"

Hmm somehow im of the opinion that photographic services and consumer's corner shouldn't be merged. THings in photographic services sometimes have a very short turn around time/deadline, and may get lost in the sea of consumer's corner threads.

Hope this can be reconsidered.

Well, I found the way out that... simply search for *F5* and you will find what you seek for... same goes for 1 character searches...

Hmm, agree with this.

The buy/sell category moves along so quickly that a post today will be kicked down to the 2nd or 3rd page 24 hours later. How about creating separate categories like, digital bodies, film bodies, flash units, tripods... only for the major camera components & accessories. Think it'll be much easier for anyone wanting to buy a used item instead of trawling through the pages.

Sellers also dun have to keep on upzing their post!

That's an excellent idea!!! No more temptations to upgrade anymore! Just stick to what you have and shoot.

If it is removed, the folks at CP, AP & MS would be very happy...

Actually, wouldn't removing the temptation to upgrade be bad for the folks at CP, AP & MS ?

After all, the 2nd hand market is where one would be able to pick up items for a discount and thus, get their feet wet, while the original owner would then have upgraded himself to something better (and most likely bought a new camera from aforementioned CP, AP or MS).

The danger is that there now becomes too many Buy&Sell sub-categories, and not everyone will want to trawl through several forums looking. Majority of Buy&Sell deals are concluded quite quickly anyway.

We will re-look at the content of the forums again after things have settled down.
