Was in Maui for business and decided to take a half-day trip up Mauna Kea, the tallest mountain in the world measured from base (under the ocean) to the peak.

#1: On the way up...

#2: Up close with Caltech Submillimeter Observatory...

#3: Keck telescopes...

You were in Maui.....how did you manage to cover Mauna Kea on Hawaii Island in half a day? Just curious.

ArcticFox, lkkang, koh02, Numnumball, RW11 - Thanks guys!

Nice pics.

I took a short flight from Maui to the Big Island (Hawai'i) - about 30 mins, and took a scheduled trip up Mauna Kea which lasted from 1425 hrs to 2230 hrs. The tour operator is Mauna Kea Adventure Tours (you can google for more info). Of course, I didn't have time for the volcanoes. Maybe next time...

Indeed! Something tells me I will be back there again for the volcanoes. :)
