Any users of matte boxes out there?
Other than being able to insert filters, how much improvement in quality to the footage does a matt box give by shutting off stray light?

I always wonder if a matte box is worth its $ and unwieldiness for wedding shoots.

Hope someone with experience can share...

do not use it 4 wedding it's like adding a kilo to your camera and it restrict ur focusing ability unless u cn afford a focus-puller imho if u put matte box during wedding it looks good and make u look good but if you cross path wif a pro u will get the awkward stare followed buy killing whispers... my two cents worth

ya too cumbersome i tink. A follow focus is not cheap with the matte box. Those french flags will knock out some bridesmate :bsmilie:

Got sie will be good, but not very important. Bottomline, does it make your footage look better? Under wat lighting circumstances will a matte box be useful?

Hope to learn more from the seniors around here...

(I can still do manual focusing without a follow-focus as a matte box will not be blocking my focus ring)

Actually this MatteBox are better than original Wide angle len Hoop. When you getting outdoor shooting at sunshine... that will very good helping.
If you are not to use Wide angle.... i think you better give up mattebox, as you say.....Sie no important.....
For me Sie + Pro image are important for who hire you , They wil get 100% trusted you .
When i 1st time use PD170P, some Bridegroom bros sometimes tell me now Camera do so small.... heard liao and see their face look no trusted you....
After i attach the mattebox, They will keep guess your equipment are few 10K , should very expensive.... so PRO are you XD
For me 1st image must let ppl see you are very "PRO", if not some uncle will say i own my cam like yous(small cam), just nobody to handle that....:p

Hi Tan. Where did you buy the Century MB? It looks very compact size, quiet handy. And how much $$$?

Looks like the Vocas one I had on the EX3. Expandore has those. Check out Ebay too. Cinecity has quite a reasonable price one.

As Tan said, the matte box main function is to eliminate flare. When using wide lens outdoor especially, the french flags n shade will help a lot to prevent flare as the len hood provided is usually not good enuf to prevent flare for the full zoom range.

Alternus, I think u r shooting weddings mainly so the matte will help only during pre weddings, plus it can enable the use of filters. However the handheld glidecam work will be affected of course. Using on AD will make yr cam front heavy n diff to handheld. My 2 cents.
