Time taken by 1 man = 96*4 = 384hrs

Time taken by 1 woman = 166.4*6 = 998.4hrs

Thus 1 woman = 384/998.4 = 0.385 men

Time taken by 2 men and 4 women = 384/(2+(4*0.385)) = 108.5 .

Long time since I did a maths question.

PS: Maybe the answer is a Real World answer as it accounts for the loss in time when the men and women are chatting up each other.

Task A requires 384 hours of a man's work

Task A requires 998.4 hours of a woman's work

Hence, 1 woman is equivalent to 2.6 men

For the same amount of work, 2 man and 4 woman will take 384 / (2+4/2.6) = 108.52173913043478260869565217393 hours

The 2 men would 'beo' the 2 women and run off somewhere else, leaving 2 women to handle the job.

The 2 women, knowing full well that 4 men took 96 hours, will try to do it under 96 hours. But being women, they will gossip about the 2 men and 2 women, and lose track of time.

Still, they manage to complete it in 162.792002 hours, which is 162.8 when rounded, which is the correct answer.

Maths, so simple.

Let man=A and Woman=B

4A=96h

6B=166.4h

Thus 4A*96=6B*166.4

Solving, we have 384A=998.4B

thus A=2.6B

if A=2.6B

Then 2A+4B=2*2.6B+4B

Total B for the job=9.2B

Using 6B=166.4h

Checking, 4A=4*2.6B=10.4B

if 6B=166.4,

then 10.4B=(6/10.4)*166.4=96h=4A...

Thus 2 men and 4 women will take 108.52h....

Anyway, there are lots of sample workings here. You should be able to refer to anyone of them (incld mine ) and solve your problem, whatever the new numbers are.
