Heard that there's such a job as professional sniffer, something like wine taster and mostly export garments to Japan. "Ch_nel" grade fetch higher price.:bsmilie:

These people need help, what is putting them in jail for 14 years going to solve? nothing.......anyway, he likes women armpits, the only women armpits in his prison likely are the guard's :)

very unforgiving laws in Singapore. Very Hitler-like way of doing things.

The 14 year imprisonment for a fetish caught my eye. At first, I thot it happened in the US and that's weird cos people there get help with fetishes (it's a behavorial disorder) not imprisonment. But lo and behold, it's none other than the tiny red dotty island!

For goodness sake! The poor guy is mentally retarded! What will 14 years imprisonment do for him?? And not only that, he got to get 18 strokes of caning.

Those justice people high up there, are they so simplistic that they only know how to follow the book?

The plea by his lawyer for shorter sentence in favor of medical intervention was outright rejected. Indirectly, it's the Law here saying, our society really doesn't need people with "faulty" genes. (Aside: Doesn't this draw a parallel as to why SDU must have only graduates as members, while non-graduates have to go to SDS?)

Punishment and being stowed away for a long time seems to be the way to go here. It's just short of physically killing them.

Sheesh....

14 years and 18 strokes is way too harsh for a mildly-retarded person for smelling arm-pits. He'll be better off in a mental institution rather than prison. I have heard of murderers who got lighter sentences than that. Sometimes its so hard to understand the judgements meeted out.

I remember a case of a driver who drove without a license, knocked down an old lady, hit and run, but was later caught or surrendered. I believe he was sentenced to less than 5 years in prison. By the way the old lady did not survive the accident.

In a case of extreme cruelty, a foreign male national stabb his fellow female citizen here in Singapore in broad daylight. He was sentenced to eight months jail and four strokes of the cane only. The lady survived, but she was stabbed so viciously and repeatedly numerous times that no one, but a lone brave old uncle stepped in to help the lady. Well that could be another story of its own.

In this case perpetrator was mentally unsound, no weapons were used, except his offending nose and maybe some restraining of the victim, he gets nearly the maximum number of strokes that can be given to a person and 14 year stay in Changi Condo, where he might probably suffer humiliation, instead of receiving treatment for his unsound mind. Sheesh! :what:

The disparity between offence and sentencing for this guy is made all the more clear compared to this infamous guy.

Killing an innocent human being recklessly is 14 to 16 times less serious than an indecent act on 23 women. What kind of justice is this? What is the meaning or reasoning behind these sentencings?

i dont know what the defense attorney do, why he never appealed for the defendant??:angry:;(
I wonder why the prosecution pressed for such a heavy sentence? I would think someone mildly retarded would have difficulty telling right from wrong and caning him would have little effect on his moral compass. Locking him up would have been sufficient but he also needs psychiatric help.

I think he should had be sent to mental hospital to receive treatment and counselling instead.

Reminds me of the 2000s case of a girl being tortured by her own classmates and the maximum sentence was only 7 years.

I guess we should not pass judgement to the judge. what if the judge was offended during the hearing? What if he went and sniff the judge's armpit? or what if one of the victims was the judge's relatives? We dont know what happened right?

Just remember, justice here is like the show, the revenge of the titans.

ya lor, i really cant understand the measurement of how a crime should be sentance.

than again, dont fault the judge just because on 1 wrong sentancing, remember he/she did good most of the time.

Reading the report, was he jailed more for attacking the victims in the lifts and molesting them, & the defense was that he had an armpit fetish?
