Taiping is a beautiful place. The lake in the town offers a lot of good photos (too bad I visit there when I don't know what is photography :confused: )

The hill (local call 'coffee' hill, correct me) is an interesting place, got some insects / butterfly, so I suppose macro is good (but again may hard to justify why need go there just for macro :sweat: ) but sometimes with fog on top of the hill.

Food there is nice too ;p At least to me... But too bad I'm not good in recommend good food....

I think Taiping has a very scenic Taiping Lake Gerden which is a very ideal place to take pictures. Wide angle lens will be ideal. BTW I am an old Hua Lian boy。

I love traveling bycar to enjoy the scenic Malaysia spots, sometimes to Penang and further up to Kedah to view the padi filed, a bit suaku..:bsmilie:

Do you mean Falim (between Ipoh and Menglembu)? If I am not mistaken, most of the peanuts farm are around the Sungei Siput area....if you take the old road from Ipoh to Taiping or Penang.
Honestly, there isn't much to do in Menglembu except some good wanton noodles (night time only).
 

Ya, Bukit Larut now the name, formely called Maxwell Hill, we local Chinese call it " Kopi Shua"- literally " Coffee Mountain".

I shot some insects photo and sent to my colleague in Ohio, and told him that these pics were taken in Maxwell Hill, surprisingly he told me that he appreciates the pics taken from Bukit Larut, he must have looked into the website to find out where the Maxwell Hill is, and realize that it had changed to the new name.

Very sorry bro, I have no clue where this Falim is, is this the correct name, I could not find it even in the vast website...

No harm visit Menglembu one day and enjoy the local food like wanton mee, my wife's favorite and I believe she will convince that the Northen states' wanton mee shall taste slighly better than the Southern ones...sorry no offence to the Southern states, just my sole opinion.;)
 

Melaka would be another good destination frequent by Singaporean, as it is close to Singapore.

Recently the Eye on Malaysia has just open, though I would say the scene is not as good as Sg flyer and the previous Eye on Malaysia in Titiwangsa.

the only peanuts you will find planted in Menglembu is this at the round about as you reach from Ipoh......ha ha...just joking....

Falim is just located between Ipoh and Menglembu... actually it's much nearer to Ipoh. You can spot a row of old shop houses on your right hand side if you travelled from Ipoh toward Menglembu...

maybe we can work out a list of what to shoot in perak.

frankly, i never shoot at ipoh after picking up photography in singapore :embrass:
 

try sg lembing near kuantan. the attractions are the bukit panorama (sunrise), and rainbow falls (needs 4wd and an hr trek)

IIRC, a local Kuantan peole told me before, it is quite near to go Sg Lembing from Kuantan. Thus, to shoot at Sg Lembing, can stay at Kuantan and travel there.

At Kuantan, near the Grand Hyatt hotel (by walking distance for about 5 min), there is a famous curry mee, morning time, always very long Q... that time I wait for 45 min after order. Local told me it is min 30 min and max 1 hour waiting time... The curry noddle is not bad.

i'm planning for a trip to Penang in Aug.....asked around but most people had not visited Penang..

any must-see places and food stalls/shops I should try in Penang?

Welcome to Penang!

Well, if you arrive via airport, pick up a free magazine called "IN Penang" (should still publishing....:sweat:), just before you leave the 'restricted area' (before going out to the place where people start waiting for the arrivals). It place on the right side of the door.

Even you can't find the magazine, there still have some free maps. Grab one

Chendol in Penang road - must try. Look for the one beside the coffee shop, as there is another stall opposite. Anyway should be able to tell as there is more people around the famous stall

A walking tour around Penang's old street is good for photography, you may start from Esplanade (Padang Kota Lama) then to the Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling, where you will pass by the Temple of Goddess of Mercy (观音庙), further down the road after a T junction will be the Masjid (Mosque). Further down you will reach the area so call famous old street (古迹区), where the famous Khoo Kongsi is there. Ask around if you are not sure. The film Anna and the King also filmed nearby there.

Well, personally I would advice avoid Food Stalls in Gurney drive. Even there might have some good food, but most of them are overprice.

i'm thinking of staying at G Hotel, which I read is near Gurney Drive...is it near the heart of Georgetown?

G hotel is in Georgetown, but not exactly the heart of it.... Of course others may argue, but I would say the heart of Georgetown should be around Komtar (the tallest building in Penang).

Around G hotel is not bad... The Gurney plaza just beside, manage by Capitalland, is one of the most well maintain shopping mall in Penang. The only problem of Penang is the public transport is not good. Though with a lot buses, but it is difficult to reach those places where got nice food.

Taxi is ok, but sometimes will be expensive, need to agree on price before board. Any place within Georgetown should not more then RM15 per trip per taxi...

For Penang Laksa, the kopitiam beside the Chendol actually selling laksa too, quite ok. You will realize most people taking the Chendol standing outside, beside the stall. If you wish to eat inside the kopitiam, you have to pay additional RM0.60 iirc. The people in the kopitiam will order for you.

But to get the famous laksa, it should be in Ayer Itam, just below the famous Kek Lok Si. However they are people said the Laksa there is not nice. Well depends on different people.

For Char Koay Teow, my favourite stall is in Butterworth side, too bad inconvenience for you to cross over to Butterworth side. There are people recommend Lorong Selamat, but that one is too expensive, I don't like it, though with a lot of big prawn (I'm not fancy of that) if not wrong is about RM8 a plate. Common Char Koay Teow should be around RM3.5 to RM4, with Egg.

You will realize there are a few shop behind your hotel (Jalan Burma / Pulau Tikus area)

For public buses, it is cheap, there are two main terminal (means bus starts and end there): one beside the jetty, one below the Komtar. Most buses start from Jetty will pass by Komtar, but not the other way round.
