if u are there over the weekend, check out jonker street at night for the street market... lots of nice food and the vendors are very friendly who oblige with phototaking (so long as you tell them in advance)

Afonso de Albuquerque (Portuguese) ordered the building of a fortress that was finished in November 1511.

On 14 January, 1641 the Dutch took possession of the fortress of Malacca.

A refresh of history. The Portuguese came in 1509 but were defeated. Then came again at 1511 and won the records of "Conquering the greatest trading city in asia with <1000 soldiers" ... If i remember correctly.
