main use of lens hood

still wondering should buy or not to buy... :think:

understand that lens hood is to block the sun, etc.. during day but for night, what is the use for?

is it a need to use lens hood during night time.

anyway, you might be surprise how much flare an inappropriately positioned streetlamp might cause.

a hood is also used to protect the first element of the lens, or the expensive B+W filter... also acts as a very interesting position for decorative stickers...

Lens hoods can also offer limited protection against rain, water, dust particles. They also protect the lens element from people bumping onto them and damages if the lens hit a hard surface, eg lens swinging into wall.
