Tammy on its own is ard 1 :1

+ 2X TC give u 1 :3 at the loss of 2 stops

+ Raynox is +8 diopter strength up to 2X magnification

Do note the dof will be extremely shallow and it will be near impossible to get a shot in focus with this setup..

I felt the Tammy with raynox ard good enough..

Ya, agreed with Bryan that Tammy with raynox are good enough. It is going to be a great challenge with this added extension tube. You will really need super steady hand to get a decent shot. If you have budget, get the Kenko tube and attach together with just the lens. Is to say you have now 2 options.

noted n thanks for the reply.. Actually quite happy with my tamron n the raynox but wanted to get a very close n clear shots for the insects eyes...

Hi Voltron, I have tried both Raynox and tele convertors before. I can safely tell you, tele convertors do not give you the kind of sharpness that Raynox can. Not that I'm bias but I have tried all those because I cant afford a macro lens. There's is significant sharpness loss when you compare. The main reason why you have gotten a dedicated macro lens is not only because it allows you to go closer to your object for that 1:1 magnification, the macro lens is suppose to give you the crisp in your pictures compare to the "normal" lenses.

Besides using tele convertors, you can use picture editing software such as Photoshop to crop your pics to give you the magnification you want. Personally I feel that cropping a sharp image beats taking a less sharp magnified image.

All the above is base on personal experience, but dont take my words for it, try it out yourself to be convinced. cheers :)

hi bro.. Thanks for this info.. Yup i think i will just stick to my tamron n raynox..

Hi Voltron1977,

If you just wish to add a bit more detail, maybe you'd like to consider the DCR-150? It offers you 60% extra magnification when stacked to the DCR-250.

If you have a good lighting system, the reduction in focusing distance due to the stacking should not affect the picture quality in any way.

Cheers!

No prob man..

Do note with more glass it will only degrade the pic quality..

Nwadays i wont stack glass (TC) over glass (Close up filter)

Extension tubes seems a more logical option for enhancing magnification :)

Try extension tubes instead. :)

hi n thanks for the reply.. Just wanna know if i stack up my raynox 250 with the 150 does it effect the picture sharpness..

Hi bro ok bout the extension tubes need to know any difference between the normal extention tubes n the kenko tubes..Or No differences both have same funtion only different prices..

Ok ok how bout a reverse 50mm lens stack in front of the tamron 90mm? Any comments..

U get around 3x too.

50mm lens reversed on to 100mm lens will give 100/50 = 2:1
For a macro lens already 1:1, so reversed 50mm the magnification is 1+ 100/50 = 3:1

U will also inherit the same problem as with the other set up.

Can also reverse mount a lens direct onto the body with appropraite reverse mount adapter to give you increased magnification.

Google reverse mount and you'll find a lot being written on reverse macro photography

I think that will defeat the purpose of having a macro lens already. You will lose valueable focusing distance, which is a disadvantage especially if he's taking macro shots of insects.

Not really. Be prepared to "see stars" though, especially if you're looking long & hard through the view finder with this setup as the dof is very thin :bsmilie:.

based on personal experience, it's good to have a tripod & focus using live view.
