Hi guys, why is it that I cant seem to be able to focus sharp enough on small insects even when using close-up +4. Is using auto/manual better when doing macro shooting? Tks

believe u using F717... :bsmilie:

anyway, if u using +4 or +2 the concept is get closer to the subject. prosumer cam's focusing is much slower than DSLRs so u may need to find a rather stationary insects. i forgot about the distance u need to be for +4 & +2 but normally u just from widest of your zoom on your camera, move close to the insect, focus, get the fixed distance then use the zoom to get the desired picture.

F717, welcome to Clubsnap :)

Using the closeup filter , previewing at LCD while taking macro/closeup has very shallow DOF. To focus, the distance between the object and camera with filter is kind of fixed .. abt 18 to 25cm depend on the camera ..

below is a list of threads related to the macro techniques

Tks guys,

Read abt the canon 250D, will it b able to focus nearer to the insect without the telephoto convertor? What is the minimun distance and where can I get it at the cheaper price? :)

I agree with Del_CtrlnoAlt. You need to be close to your subject.
Anyway, prosumer cam can do only so much mahhh...
Maybe u can try the Sony Telecon lens.

It works the same as a +4 close up filter, so the lens have to be at least 25cm (around that) from the subject in order to focus. It should cost around $100++ though I got it for $100 at mscolors last year. If you want to take the subject from a slightly further distance, u can consider attaching another telephoto convertor ontop of the close up filter but the magnification will be slightly lesser than using the close up filter alone.

Tks, which telephoto len is gd for F717 beside the Sony VCL-HGD1758 which is very expensive. And roughly how much does it costs? :)
