Macro Lens

Hi all,

I'm thinking what my next lens would be in the future and I was reading www.the-digital-picture.com. My question is can a general purpose zoom lens like the Canon 70-200 f/2.8 be used as a macro lens like the Canon 100mm/f2.8 or even better since the 70-200 covers the 100mm focal length? THe extra 100 mm is also a plus.

the difference between your normal telephoto lens and a macro lens is the distance of focusing and not whether the 100mm is covered inside the 70-200mm. a macro lens has a much closer focusing distance than an equivalent 100mm normal lens hence allowing you to take close up shots. alternatively you can use an extender on your telephoto to shoot macro photos.

There are some accessories to add closer focusing capabilities to the 70-200mm to make it shoot like a macro lens

The dedicated macro lens will give u better IQ.

If you already have the 70-200, you can get close-up filters to screw onto your lens so that it focuses real close. Check out "close-up filters". =)
