I am a newbie and interested to take closeup photos of insects, flowers, objects etc..any recommendations, for a start, on what macro lens to buy e.g. brand, cost etc..i am using a canon 600D. Thanks

Welcome to ClubSNAP. :)

You can try Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 USM.

Read the stickies in the macro section. Do a search for "recommend macro lens". About 500 threads so far.

many have bought the tamron 90mm as a starting lens, cos good and cheap. Some are still using it, some will change and sell it off due to the extension during the focusing.
So it depends if u wanna jump straight into a good investment or jus wanna try try only. (not saying tamron is not a good lens).
Also what is ur budget? there are macro lens costing from $3++ - $2+++

Play play get the Raynox 250 can already 2.5 magnification at $130, add on to your kit lens.
Test on pns cam not too shabby (just mind the shabby compression while jpg uploaded)

Include budget for tripod too.

Tamron 90mm f2.8 Macro.

Get yourself an external flash with diffuser as well.

welcome, some gears to think about is a macro lens, Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 USM, some suggested Raynox 250, some suggested Extension Tube. You may wish to look into getting a ring flash.

tamron 90mm and external flash DIY diffuser... can already :)

Not necessary to have tripod. If you are just trying out, 50mm f/1.8, with Raynox. :) Have fun in macro!!
