LX 5, Film mode and its quality

Hi guys

I am contemplating a PNS camera, and the EP 1 (Olympus) and the LX 5 are in the top 2 spot at the moment. One criteria for me in this PNS is the grain quality of the shot. Well, I know many will tell me that I can add this in during Post Processing, but I'd like it to be as natural looking as possible.

When I saw the grain of the EP1, I told myself 'WOW', this is really good. But I cant seem to find the black and white shots (without edit) from the LX5 or LX3.

Would any of you have some to share so I can evaluate them?

If the LX5 looses out, I'd just stick to shooting film

Some commented that the LX5 'Film Mode' ala 'Grain' was similar to Ilford 3200 film. Now, I've never used 'Ilford 3200' film, so I can't say for sure if it is, but the it sure looks convincing to me.

Those are indeed impressive B&W shots from the LX5. To think that Panasonic have not as much R&D in film (or even non at all!) and yet have achieved this much in terms of matching the film quality, I personally feel its a wonderful achievement.

I think the picture I include below is from a roll of Ilford 3200 (pushed to 6400). If its not, then its a Kodak 3200 (also pushed to 6400). Its grain is much more coarse, has a higher contrast ratio, but its not a very fair comparison as its an indoor shot, as well as its pushed. But just for comparison sake, I'd say the LX5 has done very well.

Having said this, the Oly's Pen (EP2) has shown me terrific results straight out from the camera, and with that was the idea that came to me to find an alternative rather than shooting film. It would no doubt save me $, but at the same time, take away some thrill :nono:
