low ceiling and bounce card

when i taking a few shot with a low ceiling with a bounce card ,when i go near the subject to take a shot , ifound that the subject is over expose ,the background is dark .

removing the bounce card yield a better result but the face of the subject is not properly lit up .

any advice ????

just turn the flash head upright toward ceiling, if problem persist,

keep a distant with subject and use longer focal length lens setting.

or simply reduce the flash indensity.... (if it is adjustable)

the bounce card.
adjust it.
lower it till you expose only a thin line of maybe 0.5 cm, then try again. if still too bright, use 0.25cm. this reduces the amount of light throw forward while maintaining output for bouncing.

if you want the background to be brighter. try pointing flash head more forward. due to the angle, the light spreads more when bouncing away from the ceiling. you need some schematic diagram to get a good picture of what i mean? can try googling it.

another way is to use rear sync. that means also a shutter speed of about 1/30 or 1/40. then your background will light up. more ambient light is let in.
