I was actually waiting for Nikon AFS 50mm 1.4 but read the review and cx the pics by Sigma 50mm user at Flickr and thought... heck.. just go for it. Its about 100 dollars more ex than Nikon one but...honestly.. I felt like its worth every cent.

A lot of ppl has done a comparison and sigma came up top. Ya.. Come with a price but so far never disappoint me. BTW.. I got a 3 yr warranty so that helps too (Plus Sigma is made from Japan while Nikon is made from China.. if that matters..lol)

Pic 6 is absolutely taken at f1.4

You can see the bokeh totally smoothed and the pic is still rather sharp.

#6 looks very nice!

Perhaps you can post a bigger version of it in say 1024x683 or something ?
Usually a bigger pict will bring out the effects of shallow DOF and Bokeh even more dramatically. ;)

Couldn't sleep. So tot I post another. This one is one of my fav. Some may have seen it in my other thread.

So andrewtansj, I am curious, since you are a user of 50mm f1.2. What is your impression of Sigma f1.4? Comparable to 1.2? Really just curious of your views.

personally i think the sharpness and bokeh out performs the 1.2 wide open, when stopped down is quite comparable. I might consider getting a sigma copy as well... but currently i'm still quite happy with my 1.2... :)

At one point I was so curious about Nikon AFS 50mm f1.4 that I thought of selling Sigma to get it. To me, the biggest disadv of Sigma is its weight. Heavy for a 50mm. But glad to hear that its even comparable to 50mm f1.2.

i think the higher price than the OEM's is worth every cent right? it's sharp and produces nice bokeh...

:) the 1.2 is an old design and technology so can't really compare. and it doesn't mean that 3rd party lenses can't perform better than the nikkor. well, there are always pros and cons of each individual lenses...
