hey i'm looking for a wide angle lens. i'm using eos 88 film based SLR. any recommendations? and any good place to buy it?

tamron 17-35 f2.8-4 would be a very good bet... if lucky they appear in BnS at about $350.
at 17mm its consider as an ultra wide already for a FF.
alternative would be 17-40, but that would cost close to 1k

Go for the Sigma 12-24mm. Check out the Canon sub-forum sticky on lens prices.

How wide?

Tokina 19-35mm is great value for money. (I regret selling off mine!)
Or for an ultra-wide, 8mm Peleng?
8mm peleng is considered fisheye and not ultra-wide... they serve 2 very different need

i recommend either tokina 19-35 or tamron 17-35. Suits FF and DSLR(even when you go full frame DSLR next time)

Reminder. TS is only asking for recommendations and this is not a WTB thread.

Please refrain from making sales offers or providing links to your sales ad in B&S.

+1 for the Tokina 19 - 35mm f/3.5-4.5,
Its well worth the price you pay for.
It is built like a tank and the optics produces more than decent picture quality. Definitely good enough to be use on the Eos 88.
The only down side I can think of being its a wee bit noisy during focusing.

on film.... sigma 12-24 will be very fun :p except now you move a lot closer to a subject though

I can recommend the Canon 16-35mm,Mk.II lens. Fast focus, sharp in centre as well as corners. Flare is well controlled throughout the FL and barrel distortion isn't obvious @ 20mm & longer.
