there is only 2 or slightly more choice...
panasonic fz50 and fuji s9600
but fz50 ain't good in noise control and uess 55mm rather than 58mm threads, but should be a problem with a step up ring.
while s9600 doesn't have IS

and yes, there will definitely be shutter lag in all and every camera even the new 1DmkIII, it just how much... and imho both fare pretty well

Your requirements are pretty extreme for "just" a prosumer, though I guess the Canon G7 would be closest.

Thanks ExplorerZ. Will look into the FZ50 and S9600.

Thanks Rashkae for your prompt response. But Canon G7 has would not be in my list as most of my requirements are not met. :(

S3 Is?

requirement not met ?

See G7 requirement

10.0 Megapixels
6x optical zoom lens with optical Image Stabilizer and SR coating
DIGIC III and iSAPS with Advanced Noise Reduction and Face Detection AF/AE
2.5” high-resolution LCD with wide viewing angle and anti-glare coating
ISO 1600 for flash-free, low light shooting
Ergonomic design with dedicated ISO and Multi Control dials for fast, easy operation
25 shooting modes including full manual control and 2 custom settings
Extra telephoto reach with Digital Tele-Converter and Safety Zoom
Hot shoe support for Canon Speedlite flashes and optional lens accessories

Look like requirements all meet ...

Thanks YouHong. But S3 IS is also out. :(

Get Olympus DSLR then... :bsmilie:

Thanks Megaweb. I am referring to the requirements I stated above. :)

Thanks YouHong. I already have a Canon DSLR liao....:)

FZ50 earn my votes tho it has bad noise control compaired to s9600, but hand shale is a bigger problem so i need something to correct that area.... seems like what u expected is 70% completed of a wonderful cam everyone wants;)

I think the one missing is RAW support. :bsmilie: I use the G7 more than my DSLR nowdays since I don't care about RAW unless it's for some serious shoots (which I use my DSLR)

not sure but i believe the G7 manual focus ain't true manual... a press on the button will engage AF instead of the usual pressing of shutter. but for s9100 and fz50, one is able to turn the focusing ring him/herself for MF

"Press button MF" is crap IMHO... The MF on my Fujifilm S5500 is no good. MANUALLY turn the focusing ring is the REAL MANUAL focus...

Turn the dial at the back to manual focus as you would on a focusing ring. The button is for cases where you want to AF while in MF mode

ic, anyway a ring is always much easier to use. :bsmilie:

MOST of your requirements are met by the G7. Or the upcoming sony H7/H9, but then you lose the external flash ability (though you gain Nightshot on the H9).

Other than that, the G7 meets most of your requirements, and you won't find anything in the prosumer class that meets ALL your requirements.

Compared to G7:

1. 2.5" live view, one that can be tilted. - CHECK
2. Manual focus. - CHECK (not true manual, this is hard to find on prosumers.)
3. Image Stabilation (IS). - CHECK
4. Manual exposure settings. - CHECK
5. 58mm thread size for additional attachments. - CHECK (with external filter adaptor)
6. Able to shoot in RAW format. - Nope. Sony V3 can though. RAW is not seen as required in prosumers.
7. built in flash but also able to attach external flash. - CHECK
8. Good noise control. - CHECK
9. Optical zoom of 6x and above. - CHECK
10. No shutter lags.... - NO CAMERA has zero shutter lag. :)

So, that's 8/9 for the realistic requirements, and the last one is just plain wishful thinking.

Thanks Rashkae. I will go check out the G7 at the stores.

How about Dimage A2 :)

Although its an old model, It has a mechanical zoom (wire by frame) lens with 7.1x zoom. I have both A1(BP-400 grip) and A2. I saw only one shop (2nd level Sim Lim) is still selling it. If you want, can go check it out together with the other potential cameras in mind.

A200 (support remote control) also can consider, but it does not have a grip like A1 and A2...
